Lead singer The Rave from New York City alt rock act Spells and Curses are diving deep with a ton of new music on board. The band blends lead singer The Rave’s soulful voice with a light rock flair that embodies the smooth alternative sounds of what is Spells and Curses. I talked to lead singer The Rave about his soulful voice, his writing and recording process that make up Spells and Curses, and what the future holds. How did the band get together initially? Initially Spells and Curses didn’t start off as a band. It was me having a…
John Splithoff is out to create timeless jazz meets R&B music and he hits the threshold every time. His new album, Far From Here, meets every expectation in my book. His first single he ever wrote was a global hit. Splithoff was happy that “Sing To You” resonated and had that impact on people. Now, his new album is doing just the same. Raised in Chicago, Splithoff is truly a nomad as he lived in New York City, Florida, and now Los Angeles. He found inspiration in each town musically and lyrically that he has built upon. I recently zoomed…
SKORTS is thrusting their 70s glam and 90s alternative together in such majestic way it left me speechless on St. Patty’s Day. Opening for another fave of mine, The Thing, SKORTS are making their mark on New York City’s DIY rock scene. The band is comprised of Alli Walls, lead vocalist, Char Smith, lead guitarist, Emma Welch, bassist, and Max Berdik drummer. Their fashion screams glam rock, as does their stylized 70s meets 90s music but it all pivots to a modern day rock opus. Their song for “Eat Your Heart Out” is a seething rock tune for the ages.…
Female rock is so chic again. Well, Cat Ridgeway is making it chic again. The exuberant and charismatic singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is beaming her way into the music industry not only with her amazing talents but with her friendly personality as well. I honestly think of her as the next Sheryl Crow with a punk rocker attitude. The singer went through losing a friend and then she wrote a cathartic piece on it called “Sprinter”, which face it we all could relate to. The Orlando, Florida indie rocker is ready to unleash her new album Sprinter out 3/28. Watch…
British newcomer Luke Marzec is definitely a generational talent. From his vocals, swagger, and his soul music. He’s ready to bring it to the forefront of American music. Refreshing, honest, raw, and authentic as he reverberates an old school sensibility. I cannot say enough about him. The press is already claiming him to Amy Winehouse status. And those vocals are one of kind. Check out our interview below where we talk about newcomer Lola Young, the legendary Adele, and his new upcoming effort entitled Something Good Out Of Nothing, which contains a Side A and B to appease his fans.…
Indie pop rock duo Cumulus are gearing up for the fourth album. William Cremin and Alexandra Lockhart are creatives at heart creating music to inspire others to make music. Even as the indie alt rock scene is taking a hit these days Seattle still continues to evolve since Grunge. Thus, Cumulus are moving in with a coming of age album called We’ve Got It All on April 18. Chatted it up with the Pacific Northwest duo about their music, how Big Thief crept into their new album, and their new song “Simple”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48EDz6W1898
Kadavar, a rising rock band out of Berlin, is ready to release their forthcoming album I Just Want To Be A Sound. The album is out May 16. The band is gaining traction here in the States as we speak. Their first single from the upcoming album is an alt rock dream with a melodic guitar riff that is addictive as it comes. The band consisting of members, Lupus Lindemann and Tiger Bartelt, and rounded out by guitarist Jascha Kreft and bassist Simon ‘Dragon’ Bouteloup, are ready for the crossover anytime. The band has been around for 15 years. They…
Are We Hunting, the project of Ryan Ayala, is an endearing West Coast folk act. His intense lyrics match those of his melodies. Ayala’s storytelling tells a rich narrative and illustrates a sun soaked west coast vibe. His 2020 Break in the Sun EP is just as powerful as his new material. We talked about his new single “Cover From The Thieves” and much more. Watch the video below. https://youtu.be/lDx6diasg3o?si=5Fi6J0xzDHUO0uFS
With an EP and album under her belt already, Cornelia Murr is not exactly a new comer to the scene. She’s following in the footsteps of the greats: Tori Amos, Paula Cole, and Sara Bareilles. Her psychedelic throwback sound makes her one of a kind though. Born in London then spending sometime in Los Angeles, Cornelia found space to build upon her ethereal sound in a small town in Nebraska, as we discuss. Thus, she wrote and recorded a stunning, gorgeous album called Run To The Center—out at the end of this month (February 28). It’s a reflection of where…
Two-Man Giant Squid are as unique as their band name. You can’t really box their music in a certain genre. The band began a s hopeful bedroom project of lead singer Mitch Vinokur and now has added four more members to the mix of things: Yan Kogan, Robbie Sawyer, Sam Borges and Brendan Jones. The indie band from Brooklyn is gaining much traction due to word of mouth. Now their debut self titled album is due out March 7 with the lead single “Weird Recordings (you’ve got some).” Check out the song and my interview with founding member Mitch Vinokur…
