Peter Lord is a legend. He’s worked with some of the greats in the business from Paula Abdul to Prince to D’Angelo. He’s an accomplished singer songwriter and has developed his own style over the years. Known for hosting work with Brooklyn band The Family Stand, Lord is now branching out to new opportunities not only with his solo material but film as well. His new album, Songs from the 8th Dimension, is out August 29. The first single, “Boom”, serves as inspirational food for the soul. His new solo project dives into different musical styles as well, which I cannot…

Badflower, a rock band originally from Los Angeles, has uprooted to Nashville, and they are ready to take over. The band delivers a pop punk sound reminiscent of the early 2000’s when blink-182 surged in popularity, but the band’s meaningful lyrics have deep sentimental value. Josh Katz, the lead singer, of Badflower says the band’s sound is a mix of the punk rock likes of blink mixed in with Death Cab for Cutie lyrical vibes. The band is now on tour with 311. Sat down with Los Angeles native Katz to talk about their latest album, influences, and their single…

Your Favorite Color is getting emotional with their 80s influenced sound. The lyrics surrounding their new tune “Where Did It All Go Wrong?” is based on branching out to their backyard of Los Angeles as they are based in Huntington Beach, California. The Orange County band is placing the OC on the map—again—as No Doubt and other bands cropping out from the area made it or are making it their scene. “Where Did It All Go Wrong” is a song that is universal and appeals to the soul. The song captures the moment at time when you are ready to…

The Technicolors are back after a four year hiatus. The band’s last album 2021’s  Cinema Sublimina saw the band crest and then the pandemic occurred and put a damper on things for the band and the music industry suffered immensely as well. The band reconvened for Heavy Pulp this year though. The new album, which is due out June 20, definitely has a more refined psychedelic raucous sound to it across the board. The singles released from the project so far show the band’s undeniable talent as we welcome them back with open arms. I sat down with lead singer…

Pleasure Pill might just be the dose of rock that we need. Reminiscent of brit rock band Oasis, the band’s new album Hang A Star is a 90s alt dream. The band even received the Oasis seal of  approval from Oasis’s Liam Gallagher calling the band “Dangerous”. The San Diego foursome just released the video for the laid back gem of a tune called “Don’t Fly Away”, which can be seen below. The band’s debut album is housed with melodic ear worms that you cannot get out of your head. This could be Oasis version 2 for the social media…

Boston hip hop trio GLASSHOUSE are starting to tap into the culture. Luis Luna (Luna), Gerald Liriano (Liri), and Jahmo Elijah Chavez (Elijae) are fusing together hip hop and R&B beats with songs like “No Mind (oh my)” and “Sweater”. Their single “Slum Village” is an ode to the rap group that they have looked up to for so long. Their influences do range from modern day hip hop to classic R&B. The hip hop outfit stood out as Boston’s hottest entry to NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest and then they were invited to perform at a slot at this year’s…

First listen of R&B singer Mobley and his throwback single “Yesterday’s Another Day”  and I thought of Maxwell and the neo soul movement, but the single is just the tip of the iceberg. His latest album We Do Not Fear Ruins not only blends R&B influences but the entire album runs along a theme of a revolution of sorts and tells an epic story from beginning to end. Mobley, who is based in Austin, places his life on display in a vulnerable and courageous way on Ruins, and the album shares a futuristic apocalyptic story and feel to it with…

Lead singer The Rave from New York City alt rock act Spells and Curses are diving deep with a ton of new music on board. The band blends lead singer The Rave’s soulful voice with a light rock flair that embodies the smooth alternative sounds of what is Spells and Curses. I talked to lead singer The Rave about his soulful voice, his writing and recording process that make up Spells and Curses, and what the future holds. How did the band get together initially? Initially Spells and Curses didn’t start off as a band. It was me having a…

John Splithoff is out to create timeless jazz meets R&B music and he hits the threshold every time. His new album, Far From Here, meets every expectation in my book. His first single he ever wrote was a global hit. Splithoff was happy that “Sing To You” resonated and had that impact on people. Now, his new album is doing just the same. Raised in Chicago, Splithoff is truly a nomad as he lived in New York City, Florida, and now Los Angeles. He found inspiration in each town musically and lyrically that he has built upon. I recently zoomed…

SKORTS is thrusting their 70s glam and 90s alternative together in such majestic way it left me speechless on St. Patty’s Day. Opening for another fave of mine, The Thing, SKORTS are making their mark on New York City’s DIY rock scene. The band is comprised of Alli Walls, lead vocalist, Char Smith, lead guitarist, Emma Welch, bassist, and Max Berdik drummer. Their fashion screams glam rock, as does their stylized 70s meets 90s music but it all pivots to a modern day rock opus. Their song for “Eat Your Heart Out” is a seething rock tune for the ages.…
