Samantha Gongol, better known as one half of pop jazz centric outfit Marian Hill, is now going solo as the two are on hiatus for the time being. Samantha helped create 2016’s avant-garde lush, pop masterpiece Act One with Jeremy Lloyd from the duo’s arsenals. Known for the hit single “Down” off that album, Samantha is now going anywhere but up.
Her newest single “Flash in the Pan” is about being out of the spotlight for a bit in this fickle industry we call the music business. The single reflects on uncertainty and the passage of time and the pressure to make the next big hit. The solo material does not stray too far away from her musical roots with Marian Hill—but this is all Samantha Gongol—as she writes from her own experiences and life.
I sat down with Gongol from Los Angeles via zoom and we talked about her upcoming solo EP, what feels different with going solo, and her new hit single “Flash in the Pan” (out this Friday October 25).
