Alaena found her grunge sound thanks to being part of the metal band Winds of Plague. “I knew I wanted to be a solo artist because I had such a thirst for pop music with a good strong melody that I wasn’t getting from metal,” says the eclectic singer. “Grunge pop is something that is naturally in my blood. A lot of it contributes to it from the way I grew up, the things I did in high school, to people and places I had always gravitated towards. Everyone with angst and sadness has a story to go behind it, the only way I felt I could release those feelings was through music.”
The singer lived in Pittsburgh for a period of time. “The band scene was thriving here. There were multiple shows every week and bands everywhere when I used to live there.” The scene is now being saturated by hip-hop and R&B. As she parted ways with Winds of Plague, Alaena felt like she had to start over when she began her solo career. “It was actually pretty tough, I had to start over and acclimate my fan base to the new music I was creating. I lost a lot of fans in the process.” The singer did not lose steam though as she just released her song “I Wanna”. She states, “The song sits in a weird place in my heart because I originally wrote it about a guy I was seeing where we kept throwing mixed signals at each other. When it came time to release the song I had a completely new outlook on it.”
Alaena is ready to forge ahead with new material. “Yes, I am putting out the best music I have released to date, there are new collaborations on the horizon, a music video, and shows all coming soon.”
