Bryant Park located in midtown New York is a great way to spend an evening under the stars on a summer night. We talked to Dan Fishman, Vice President of Public Events of Bryant Park. Beginning this evening you can catch free summer music, dance, and theater as part of the Bryant Park Picnic Performances sponsored by Bank of America. Tonight experience jazz music from Wycliffe Gordon and Friends. Grab a blanket and head out on the lawn and enjoy a night under the stars. I recently had a chat with Naoko Yamano from Shonen Knife on their cult legacy since the early 90s. The alt rock act will release Let’s Knife, on July 10, a collection of rerecorded tracks from the band’s heyday on Robby Takac’s Good Charamel records. The trio hasn’t missed a beat since they were cosigned by the iconic Kurt Cobain of Nirvana as they continue to represent Osaka Japan with style and grace. Why did you rerecord Let’s Knife at this moment in time? Let’s Knife is an album of re-recorded tracks carefully selected from Shonen Knife’s first four albums:…
Another Education Through Music Gala is in the books. This year Education Through Music celebrated its 35th year. Present were music industry heavyweights, real estate leaders, philanthropists, and passionate education advocates. Some power people who graced the red carpet included Xavier “X” Jernigan, Chris Pratt, Peter Rosenthal, and Deborah Romano. ETM partners with under-resourced schools to provide comprehensive, sustainable music education as a core subject for all students. Photos below.
Noelle Scaggs from Fitz and the Tantrums is delivering a soulful version of herself with her new debut solo LP called Money Fame Love. This side project has been decades in the making and kicks off what we want to hear in 2026—dance beats, disco fever, and electro R&B. Fitz and the Tantrums are still together and doing their thing but now is the time for Scaggs to shine. I talked to her about her new LP, the soulful direction that she wanted to take and bring back, and a possible future tour. https://youtu.be/V7Kre5FG00g
Jesus Christ Taxi Driver is making America rock again. With their facetious lyrical content and lounge folk sound, this Colorado band is one in the making. The band wasn’t making a political album to begin with but with everything that is going on in the current climate, they decided to do the respectable thing and take a swing at it. Thus Taxi The Rich was released. Their song “Have It” is about the American dream gone awry. I sat down with the band for 5 Qs: How did Jesus Christ Taxi Driver initially get together as a band? We all met playing…
Cleveland, Ohio based band Orange Animal have been together since 2017. Their songs are generally sentimental but I have a soft spot for “Run Lovers Run” which has a rocking Black Keys (who are from Akron, Ohio) meets Led Zeppelin groove to it. John Ramsey, lead singer of the rock trio, knows how to write the blues, sing the blues, and be all about the blues. The rock outfit, which consists of John Ramsey (vocals/guitar), Bill Derivan (bass/keys), and Adam Thurman (drums/percussion) make up Orange Animal. Their new EP Place For Me via Paper Garden Records is due out June…
Keith Carne from indie rock outfit We Are Scientists is headed on a solo venture. His new album Magenta Light illustrates the broad palette of influences he has from across the board. Moody, ethereal, and not quite what you expected from the drummer of WAS are some ways to describe his solo sound. I sat down with the drummer now singer as he makes the leap into his own project. What prompted this solo project? I’ve had intensely personal musical ideas knocking around my head for a loooooooong time. Really my whole life. My wife had a vision of magenta…
Had a chance to interview upcoming indie band The Moss. The Moss broke through with the four-song Insomnia EP, leading the way with more than 25 million streams, the title track – which lead singer Tyke James describes as “a bittersweet song about codependency, the point in a relationship where you feel incomplete without the other person” — has landed on Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 chart with major support from Sirius XM’s Alt Nation. Other highlights of the past year include well-received sets at Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful and Idaho’s The Festival at Sandpoint. Now the band is gearing up…
Brooklynite Dylan Pham is ready to release his genre bender of a project. Afterimage, out April 28, blends indie rock, shoe gaze, and a bit of indie hip hop thanks to his influences Tyler, The Creator, Tame Impala, and Radiohead. He’s playing a show on May 8 at Unruly Collective. He’s one of many artists creating a stir in the Brooklyn, New York indie scene. Catch him while you can and check out our interview below. https://youtu.be/rMIsdMXFmM0?si=LnWcq_1GAkGnqMbO
Belgium duo Ultra Sunn are carving out a niche for the EBM movement. The band, based out of Brussels, Belgium is a cross between Depeche Mode and Phantogram. Although they don’t believe in nostalgia, they are creating a realm of music that defies today’s pop music scene. They recently released their sophomore effort, The Beast In You, which is a feast for ravers of all kind. The pair has their eyes peeled on the United States for a tour next month. In the meantime enjoy their new video for the single “Keep Your Eyes Peeled” below. Where and how did…
