Liverpool rockers The Mysterines, reminiscent of 90s rock act Garbage, are putting the sex back in sexy. Their debut album, Reeling, is an alt rock/blues assault on the senses. The album is due out March 11. The band, barely out of their teens, have released the first single “Dangerous” and it screams Shirley Manson meets Courtney Love. Indie rock act Spirit of the Bear just released “Wires” and it’s a gorgeous sleek throwback. “I’m falling/Without a parachute” sings lead singer James Harker with all his vulnerability. The song depicts the ups and downs of a relationship. The irresistible sax though makes us wanting more.
Punk rockers PUP are back with a ditty called “Matilda”. The song is about a guitar, simply put. “Matilda is the name of my favourite guitar. She was a gift from my friend Ryan, after watching me accidentally break the only guitar I owned in the middle of a long tour. I had no money to buy a replacement, and Ryan’s act of kindness is up there on my list of “nicest things anyone’s ever done for me”. Power rock trio Sunflower Bean have announced Headful of Sugar, their first album since 2018’s Twentytwo In Blue. Vance Joy has had multiple hits out by now. His new song, called “Don’t Fade”, a slow tempo rhythmic song, is about a lover who wants their counterpart to stay. Acclaimed English punk band IDLES have released the video for “Crawl”. The album CRAWLER was released last Fall and is considered one of the most important rock albums of the 2021.
