TLC’s fifth and final album is due out June 30th. This is the first album without Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Lopes was killed in a car crash accident in 2002 while in Honduras. The first single from the still untitled album was released yesterday. It’s called “Way Back” and it’s reminiscent of the trio’s early sound with a west coast vibe to it. Upcoming Bronx rap queen, Connie Diiamond, is releasing her new video “Fireplace” featuring Billy B. that was shot all in the desert. Modern Frequency fell in love with Diiamond’s fierce energy at HOT 97’s Who’s Next Showcase a few weeks ago. This single is the first from the upcoming all female mixtape Return of the Fempire. The queen of hip hop/soul, Mary J. Blige, is back and this time she enlisted Kanye West for help on “Love Yourself”. She sings “You gotta feed yourself/before you feed anybody else”. Also, it’s time she goes back to her roots musically. Hopefully Strength of a Woman, due out April 28, will sound like this single—gritty, bluesy, and just plain honest. Bleachers are back with a new song called “Don’t Take the Money” and Jack Antonoff says this song in particular is about marriage and depression, something he is coming to terms with. Lorde returns the favor and sings background vocals on the track as Antonoff produced her newest single, “Green Light”. Nice timing. The music itself is an 80s throwback track. Check it out below.
Turns out Kendrick Lamar is not a fan of Trump either as he raps that “Trump is a chump” on his new track called “The Heart Part 4”. Hip hop is taking a swing at politics big time recently. Reclusive band At the Drive In will be releasing a new album on May 5, 2017. The band has released two new singles ahead of the band’s new album titled, in•ter a•li•a. On December 8 of last year, At The Drive In, released “Governed By Contagions” followed by the recent release of “Incurably Innocent”.
