Eclectic R&B singer, DJ, activist and producer Erykah Badu spun some tunes off the vinyl reissues off the Fela Kuti catalog at The Box in New York City last night. Kuti was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, musician, composer, pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre, and human rights activist.

DJ Reborn opened the set with a throwback of Orlando Julius, Ray Baretto, and Willie Colon & Hector Lavoe and hyped the crowd up to a frenzy. She undoubtedly is one of NYC’s hottest new DJs as she was digging in the crates for old goodies.

Badu’s big entrance occurred as she walked through the front doors of the club and made her way to the stage with her shiny space-like silver outfit. She played The Roots, Q-Tip, early Michael Jackson, and many more mainstream hits from the past few decades. Badu’s set lived up to her outrageous clothing selection and hair as well as she celebrated 20 years to the date of her debut album, Baduizm. Check out pics below of DJ Reborn, Erykah Badu, and a clip of Badu playing a little “Vivrant Thing” from rapper Q-Tip.
