Modern Frequency loves finding gems under the radar and Jess Nolan is a fierce female that is bringing back the great times of Tori Amos, Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan amongst others from the 90s women’s folk movement. Although Nolan considers her sound soul folk, she’s still with good company as she carries the torch in 2023. The singer recently landed on another indie woman’s radar—the Buffalo born and bred folk legend Ani DiFranco. DiFranco subsequently placed her on her Righteous Babe Records label.
I sat down with the singer via zoom as she is on tour with another fierce female–-Jenny Lewis. Nolan and I sat down and talked about her new fantastic single “Emergency Landing” (that would strike a chord with anyone), her upcoming album ’93, (Due out this Fall) and landing on Ani’s radar.
