Kites in Lightning is a Fort Collins, Colorado based folk rock band. I was lucky enough to listen to their material on Groover, a new platform for music nerds like me. Their material is a blend of Mt. Joy meets Radiohead. Their new song “Yellow Lines”, which will be out March 1, is folk rock at best. Their upcoming EP will have more electronic influences though. The band is comprised of Ben Haugestuen (Lead vocals, guitar, banjo), Erik Zylstra (Drums), Karl Ayers (Bass), Mikala Thompson (Keys, vocals), and Masha Eads (Guitar, mandolin, vocals).
I sat down via zoom to talk to Ben and Mikala of the folk rock outfit to talk “Yellow Lines”, the Colorado rock scene, and how they all got together.
