Mat Kearney has released a new song called “Drowning In Nostalgia”, which brings back emotions from his childhood. The folk singer says that this is his most fictitious song he has ever written. His new self titled album is due out May 15 on Middle Kid Records. He got a hand producing the album from Mokita, Micah Tawkls (Hayley Williams, Liza Anne, COIN), and Marc Scibilia (Breland, Robin Schultz, Teddy Swims) on the rest. The guitar strokes feel like a cool breeze coming off the Pacific on this particular tune. The songs released from this album so far give off laid back grooves but have more of a serious lyrical content to it.
He tapped The Brook and the Bluff – a group he’s a big fan of – to play as his backing band on several of the album’s tracks – a first for Kearney. “…these guys aren’t session players, they just have this feel together. And my favorite music is like that: people leaving space for each other, each one’s limitations complementing the other’s. And in a weird way it became like a democracy.” Listen to the song below.
“Drowning in Nostalgia” follows the singles “Sumac,” “Palisades,” and “Headlights Home” , and “Good Thing Going On.”
