Last week NYC held CMJ Music Festival and it was another successful year in the books. Modern Frequency attended K. Flay on Monday at the Knitting Factory, Elle King and Mary C. & the Stellars on Tuesday at Rockwood Music Hall and the Drom, respectively. Wednesday was Big Picture Media’s CMJ Showcase held at the Living Room in Williamsburg, Thursday was Gerard Way, former lead singer of My Chemical Romance, at Webster Hall, and Friday was BPM’s showcase at the Rivington followed by Danny Brown on ADA’s Boat Cruise. Calvin Richardson has been in the game for close to 20 years crooning R&B tunes out. He’s known as the voice of Creed and he still has a very loyal fan base and Scott Stapp proved that Wednesday night at Irving Plaza. Upcoming Island Def Jam hip hop singer, August Alsina, held an exclusive invite only listening session for his new album, Testimony, at NYC’s Hudson Hotel last night. Many came through for support including rapper Fabolous, DJ Khaled, Pusha T, among many more. Angela Yee, host of Power 105’s Breakfast Club, was guest host. August Alsina broke down in tears at one point thanking everyone in attendance as he accepted a gold plaque for his single, “I Love This Sh!t”.
